Widowed crash survivor to plead with Utahns to drive safe

Wednesday May 25, 2022

With highway fatalities higher than previous years, Zero Fatalities to prep drivers for the 100 Deadliest Days

WHAT: With Memorial Day marking the beginning of Utah’s 100 Deadliest Days, a widowed crash survivor will share her story about how a drowsy driver changed her life forever.

On December 23rd, 2018, Jordin Petersen Seamons, her husband Devin and daughter, Lyla, were on their way to see the Christmas lights at Temple Square when a drowsy driver fell asleep at the wheel, crossed several lanes and hit the Seamons’ car head-on. Jordin’s car flipped six times, causing Devin’s death at the scene and Jordin and Lyla being taken to the hospital with severe injuries. Jordin will share her experience and a powerful safety message to drivers.

The 100 Deadliest Days is the time period from now through Labor Day when road fatalities tend to be the highest.

Unfortunately, Utah is off to a rough start in 2022 when it comes to road fatalities – they are already higher this year than in previous years heading into Memorial Day Weekend. The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) and the Department of Public Safety (DPS) are urging Utahn’s to make a serious change to stop the trend and make safe driving a focus this summer.
