Fatal crash near Moab (Updated 3/3/22)

Around 10:02 pm last night, Vehicle 1 Jeep Wrangler was southbound on SR 191 at milepost 151, about 23 miles north of Moab, when it crossed over the center line. Vehicle 2, a Semi, was heading northbound in the same location in between guardrails when the driver of the semi noticed the southbound vehicle crossed over the center line. Vehicle 1 and Vehicle 2 struck each other. The 66 year old male driver of the Jeep died on scene. The 38 year old female passenger of the Jeep survived and was transported to an area hospital in serious condition. The driver of the semi was released at the scene with minor injuries. MCIT and SBI have been contacted, Commercial vehicle inspectors also responded to the scene.   Lanes were closed for about 2 1/2 hours.

Investigators are working to determine what caused the driver to cross over.
