Dashcam captures rollover crash and buckled driver walks away uninjured

Wednesday November 17, 2021

For Immediate Release:

Click it or Ticket seat belt enforcement happening November 24-28

WHAT:

Media are invited to a virtual press event to hear from crash survivor Mario Landeros-Escobar who says buckling up saved his life when his truck rolled several times on highway 84 last month. He was able to walk away from the single-vehicle crash, as his seat belt kept him properly restrained. He hopes to encourage travelers to buckle up this holiday season and always.

This month’s enforcement effort will be focused on the day and nighttime seat belt use strategically planned around the Thanksgiving holiday. There will be increased seat belt enforcement throughout Utah from November 24-28. During this time, law enforcement agencies throughout the state will work more than 300 additional shifts to stop and educate motorists who aren’t wearing a seat belt.

Over the last five years, unrestrained fatalities account for a staggering 45% of total vehicle roadway deaths in Utah. Seat belts are the most effective traffic safety device by helping occupants stay in place, avoid becoming projectiles, and help drivers maintain control of the vehicle in a crash.
