The Utah Highway Patrol’s insights to crash responder safety.

The Utah Highway Patrol would like to share experiences, tips, and promote safe driving during this Crash Responders Safety Week.

As Crash Responder Safety Week messaging continues around the country, The Utah Highway Patrol would like to share key awareness and educational information with Utah motorists.  These messages could one day save a life if the driving tips and habits are put into everyday practice by the motoring public. 

As we move into the winter months, UHP officers will share advice on good winter driving behaviors that could help you avoid a collision.  Reducing those crashes also helps to reduce the risks posed to the first responders and personnel who have to respond to them.  Too many times first responders have faced life altering and deadly ramifications after being struck while performing their duties on these crash scenes.  Two UHP officers will share their survival stories and experiences they faced after being hit on Utah’s roads.

The UHP will also explain what options motorists have who have been involved in a minor crash.  Utah law allows those drivers to move to a safe location then notify law enforcement.  This protects those involved in the incident and removes the potential for secondary crashes to occur.  A demonstration video will be provided to the media and the public to show how this can be done safely.

Move over enforcement will follow the press event and the media is invited to tag along.
