Press Release

Fire in Parleys Canyon

Saturday August 14, 2021

On August 14, 2021 at 1318 hours, two grass fires were reported in Parley’s Canyon. Both of the fires were in close proximity to each other in the area of Lamb’s Canyon. Upon arrival, we found two fires approximately one mile apart burning on the east side of the highway. The winds were blowing to the east and the fires quickly spread up the mountain away from I-80. There are structures being threatened in Summit Park. Summit County Deputies along with the assistance of UHP troopers and UPD are evacuating homes in Summit Park. Currently, eastbound I-80 is shut down to a single lane. Multiple seed planes and helicopters are providing air support with more on the way. The fire at this time is zero percent contained. There is no time frame as of right now when the lanes will be back open. Unified Fire Authority, Park City Fire, DNR and the U.S. Forest Service are all fighting the fire. Several hundred acres have already burned as the fire continues to move to the east at a rapid pace. In addition, large flare-ups are burning next to I-80 forcing to keep the lanes shut down.
