A New Year’s resolution you can keep any time of year

Wednesday January 1, 2020

You can resolve to be ready for emergencies.

2020 is a great year to have clear vision, vision for the future.

For us, the clearest vision for the future is one where all Utahns are resilient, or able to bounce back from disaster. The only way to bounce back from disaster is to take action before it strikes.

Our Utah Division of Emergency Management and its Be Ready Utah program invite you to have 2020 vision about how you can be ready for disaster in 2020.

Many Utahns will set New Year’s resolutions today to have a better year than the year before. Utah DEM is suggesting resolution ideas here and on social media throughout the month of January with the hashtag #ResolveToBeReady.

For example, you could climb a mountain or lose 20 pounds, but learning about disasters that could happen near you will help you make proper emergency plans.

To have 2020 vision in 2020 you could climb a mountain, lose 20 pounds or learn what disasters can happen near you

Other resolutions Utahns might make include starting to save for Caribbean cruise, meeting someone new or joining a local Community Emergency Response Team or CERT. Just contact your local fire department to learn how.

Throughout the month of January, look for more ideas by following the Utah Division of Emergency Management on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram by searching for UtahEmergency.

Comment on social media channels about emergency plans you are making and don’t forget to include #ResolveToBeReady.

And, let’s just say for a second that you don’t make any plans in January. Start in February. It’s never too late to start preparing… until it is.
